I was wondering how long it takes for a kml to finish downloading while importing. I started an import about 5 min ago and it's doing an internet download that is taking quite a long time.

That really does depend on how large an area the kml file covered, if it covers a very large area so 10 degrees square then the system will have to download 100+ DEM files and that could be anywhere between 200MB to 1GB of elevation data.
